Selling on Amazon is something that Nigerian and African businesses will benefit greatly from. Amazon remains the best place to have your products reach a global audience and Nigeria has the potential to dominate some key product categories on Amazon. Now that you are fully aware of the export process and how we can help put your products on Amazon, we will dig deeper into how to get started right away. You will need to send the items to the US. This we will do for you. Then you should be aware of the storage cost. We offer free 2 weeks of storage for all items we help you to sell. Lastly, we will talk about the cost of selling on Amazon.

Shipping Cost to Our US Warehouse

To make it easy, we have developed fixed pricing to cover the cost of shipping various sizes of boxes to either our Atlanta or Houston warehouse. The following box sizes and shipping costs are listed below. These boxes are available at our offices at Lagos and partner offices at Abuja and Port Harcourt. So, you can go there and see how many of your products can fill each box. To understand how to use these boxes to calculate your profit, you can download the following excel sheet below. 

NOTE: If you are not in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt, you can simply look for a box that is close to the sizes mentioned. Load your items in them, making sure to load as much as possible. Knowing the number that can fill a given box allows you to compute your profit on each item sold.

We will also provide storage for your items as they are gradually been sold on Amazon. The sheet above shows your storage cost for the various sizes of boxes. 

Selling Cost on Amazon
Selling on Amazon will involve some charges depending on the particular items you are selling. Charges typically range from 8% to 20% with most been at 15%. Here is a list of the charges for the most commonly sold items.

What We Do For You and Our Charge 

We perform the following services to help you get your items sold:

  • We list all items you are selling, with our vast knowledge of how amazon works, to make sure they have the highest potential of been sold.
  • We pack all items as they are sold within 24 hours to make sure they get to the sellers within the desired time frame.
  • We follow up on all customer service issues between customers who make inquiries on your products.
  • We process all returns and stock them back in your designated storage space for resale to other customers.
  • We process your payments and wire all proceeds to you in dollars at the end of each month. 
  • We charge a fixed 10% on the cost of sale for all items sold below $50 and a fixed $5 for all items sold above $50.

 

How Do You Get Paid

We will simply deduct all Amazon commission, and our commission and wire the amount sold to you every month end. Wires are sent in dollars to your DOM account. Full details are contained in our agreement once your product is accepted.

Example 1: I sell a pair of shoes for $34. How much is wired to my account at the end of the month:

Sale Price = $40
Amazon Commission = 15% i.e 15% of $40 = $6.00
Our Commission = 10% i.e 10% of $40 = $4.00
Amount wired to you = $40 - $6 - $4 = $30.

Example 1: I sell a pair of shoes for $70. How much is wired to my account at the end of the month:

Sale Price = $70
Amazon Commission = 15% i.e 15% of $70 = $10.50
Our Commission = $5 (Once its more than $70, it is fixed at $5)
Amount wired to you = $70 - $10.50 - $5 = $54.50

How Do I Get Started

1.      Getting started is easy. Simply be sure to meet the following requirements.

  • Food Items - All items been brought for sale on Amazon must follow the required guidelines as discussed in the various training videos above. If you are selling any form of food products, be sure to watch the series 5 video at:

Specifically, be sure that you have the following:

  • Your FDA License – Watching video 5 above will show you how to obtain your FDA license. Participants in our paid training course will have an FDA license processed for them as part of the course.
  • Be sure that your products are NAFDAC approved. Please visit the nearest NAFDAC office for this.
  • Be sure you have your export license. Please visit the nearest NEPC (Nigerian Export Promotions Council) office for this.
  • Items must be properly packed as described in series 5 video and must have the labels as described in the series 5 video as well.
  • Correctly filled commercial invoice and manifest following the guidelines as shown in video series 2 and 5.
  • At least 5 pictures to be used to display their items on Amazon, and where feasible one video of the product. Members of our paid series will be thought how to make professional videos that will maximize the chance of sale of your items on amazon.
  • Follow all other requirements as outlined in video series 5 to ensure your food products will do very well in the US market. 

2.      Other Items – Be sure you have the following before bringing items to us:

  • Well designed packages for your products. This is essential as items been sold must have proper packaging. Members of our paid series will be guided on how to label and package their items to ensure maximum sale on Amazon.
  • Be sure you have your export license. Please visit the nearest NEPC (Nigerian Export Promotions Council) office for this.
  • Correctly filled commercial invoice and packing list following the guidelines as shown in video series 2.
  • At least 5 pictures to be used to display their items on Amazon, and where feasible one video of the product. Members of our paid series will be thought how to make professional videos that will maximize the chance of sale of your items on Amazon.
  • Other requirements if any, depending on the nature of your items.

3.      Drop Off – Once these requirements are met, you can drop off samples of your products at any of the following addresses.

  • Items will be sent to our Lagos office where we will do a detailed review to make sure it meets requirements to be listed on Amazon. Once we are okay that it can be listed, we will be in touch and formalized a partnership agreement. Two weeks later, your items will be live on Amazon. Other requirements if any, depending on the nature of your items.
